Willie Nelson’s “Summertime”, produced by Buddy Cannon and Matt Rollings wins Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Album!

Willie Nelson’s “Summertime: Willie Nelson Sings Gershwin” won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, at the 59th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, Sunday, Feb. 12th. The record, produced by Buddy Cannon and Matt Rollings, is a collection of some of George and Ira’s most beloved standards. In addition to producing the record, Matt also played keyboards and wrote the original arrangements. Matt and Buddy called in an all-star band to help interpret these timeless works: Jay Bellerose on drums, David Piltch on bass, Dean Parks on guitar, Paul Franklin on steel guitar, and, of course, Mickey Raphael on harmonica. Cheryl Crow and Cyndi Lauper both turned in masterful guest appearances as well.

This is Matt’s first Grammy, as well as Buddy Cannon’s. The record, their first collaboration, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Jazz Charts, and has continued to receive the highest praise, culminating in the Grammy win!
