Willie Nelson Grammy Nomination!

One of the highlights of 2016 was getting to co-produce a record for the legendary Willie Nelson with my friend Buddy Cannon. “Summertime: Willie Nelson Sings Gershwin” is a collection of some of George and Ira’s most famous songs, sung by a true master. We cut the tracks in LA with Dean Parks on guitar, David Piltch on bass, Jay Bellerose on drums, and myself on piano and various keyboards. Back in Nashville we added Paul Franklin on steel guitar, and of course, Mickey Raphael on harmonica. Willie sang his 82 year old tail off, and played his guitar (trigger) beautifully. Sheryl Crow and Cyndi Lauper both dueted on the project. The incredible Ed Cherney recorded and mixed the record.

Willie received the 2016 “Gershwin Prize for Popular Song” in Washington D.C. So this record seemed a fitting and timely tribute.

The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Jazz chart in March, and is nominated for a 2017 Grammy in the “Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album” category.
